During regular office hours at any clinic site, consumers in crisis can walk-in and be seen by the crisis worker. The crisis worker will assess the situation, provide therapeutic crisis intervention or will make a referral to our Community Psychiatric Supportive Treatment (Crisis Stabilization Unit) or refer to other inpatient psychiatric hospitals. SHCMHC also assists with mental hygiene petitions (involuntary commitments) in all three counties. If a person is concerned that a family member, friend, or neighbor, etc., is experiencing a crisis due to mental health and/or substance abuse, is resisting treatment, and is a danger to self or others, a mental hygiene petition may be filed to have the person evaluated for hospitalization or other needed services. After hours, crisis calls can be made to the crisis line at 304-425-0122 or, if the call is long distance, 1-800-615-0122.
The Goal for
SHCMHC Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) is to prevent unnecessary hospitalizations for individuals who are experiencing a crisis due to psychiatric or substance abuse related conditions. The Crisis Stabilization Unit is geared to assisting individuals back to their pre-crisis level of functioning .The program is a short term, person oriented, intensive service , provided in a therapeutic setting. Services provided: Psychiatric evaluation, medication evaluation/administration, 24 hour nursing services, individual and group counseling as well as family intervention and referral for follow up services.
